Preparing to be a Nurse

I spent a lot of time studying the medical field and I wish someone had given me these simple tips to make my life a little easier. From where to get my hospital scrubs to what to do in case of a nasty fluid spill, there are a lot of little things to learn. Here are just a few to help you along.
Make sure to buy extra medical scrubs and at least two good sets of nursing shoes. You are going to have our clothes ruined by something gross eventually. Whether you are a nurse, doctor or nurse’s aide does not matter. You are going to get something on you that you don’t want to stay there. This is why I suggest getting extra nursing scrubs and sneakers. Keep at least one extra set in your locker at work and expect to use them. You don’t want to be stuck wearing vomit soaked nursing scrubs all day.
The sneakers are another point that you need to pay attention to. All hospitals have linoleum floors because they are easy to clean. Make sure to get a set of sneakers with good grip on linoleum. Not only that. The same fluids that ruined your nursing scrubs will make that floor very slippery. You need to keep your grip on the floor so you don’t’ take a spill and wind up in the hospital bed down the hall next to one of your patients.
These are the two of the simplest suggestions I can give you as someone expecting to make their life in the medical field. I hope they serve you well and I hope you enjoy this rewarding but difficult life we have chosen. I can promise you that it’s worth everything it might throw at you.
